Blacktoft and Alkborough Flats

Tuesday we were north again, and as ususal we had a look into Blacktoft. Very warm and humid, but grey, Many waders,Herons and Egrets around. The Herons were entertaining, so we watched them a while. When we decided to leave, a man told us about Alkborough Flats, not very far from there. As it still were early afternoon, we wanted to check it out.

The reserve were quite big, and we only went a little longer than the first hide. Full of life, included little biting flies - i have bites all around that itch like mad after that!

It was supposed to be a rare purple Swamphen there, and in the far distance we could see it on the edge. Impossible to get any decent pictures of it, but i still took some just to have a record of it.

Else, the reserve looks to be good, so we will be going back. Light was fading quickly when we arrived, so we were mostly only observing. A few pictures of birds along the path didnt come out too bad.
